ississippi Lake is situated about 45 minutes west of Ottawa. It can be approached from Ottawa going west on Hwy 7 by Carleton Place. Mississippi Lake has 2 basins and is part of the lengthy Mississippi River which flows into the Ottawa River at Arnprior. Mississippi Lake is relatively fertile and shallow with a surface area of about 5,800 acres, a maximum depth of about 30 feet but a mean depth of only 9 feet. At times the current of the Mississippi River, which goes through the lake, can cause navigational problems. A public boat launching ramp is available at Carleton Place near Hwy 7.
Fishing Mississippi Lake
Game Fish species in Mississippi Lake include: northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye (pickerel, doré), yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, brown bullhead and channel catfish (Species list from 1969 survey of MNR). Mississippi Lake is a great place to fish but common warm water species are most abundant.
