he Rideau River extends from the Rideau Lakes area north to Ottawa where it empties into the Ottawa River. It was re-channeled in several places during construction of the Rideau Canal. The Rideau River is best approached from Ottawa traveling south on the new Hwy 407. The Rideau River is part of the Rideau Canal in certain sections and connects several lakes in the area. We found that it can sometimes be extremely dangerous to fishing boats because of large motorboats and yachts speeding through the Rideau Canal. Howevr, following the Rideau Canal can be interesting because the it traverses through several different lakes along the way. It is necessary to pay a fee to pass through locks on the Rideau Canal. |
