LIFE HISTORY of PADDED SCULPINS:
Spawning Season of Adult PADDED SCULPINS: Spawning occurs from February to May.
Where PADDED SCULPIN Eggs are Found: These eggs are found in nests under rocks in intertidal areas.
Characteristics of Eggs: Eggs of PADDED SCULPINS are demersal, adhesive and have colored yolk, including blue, purple or gray.
Size of Babies at Hatching: Babies hatch at 3.0 - 3.8mm in length.
Early Movements of PADDED SCULPIN Babies: Apparently these babies hatch in shallow water (less than 30m) and are carried out to deeper water with currents. Baby PADDED SCULPIN were captured in small numbers (< 5 individuals per 10 min. tow) south west of the island group containing Effingham Island (Ref. 18).
