What
are DWARF WRYMOUTHS?
Coming.
EARLY
LIFE HISTORY of DWARF
WRYMOUTHS:
Spawning
Season of Adult DWARF WRYMOUTHS: Spawning is recorded
as spring to summer, but the appearance of 12-mm babies
in our collections in early April suggests that spawning
occurs here sometime in winter.
Where DWARF WRYMOUTH Eggs
are Found: It is not known where the eggs of Dwarf
Wrymouths are deposited but it can be suggested that
they are in holes in the shallow muds of river mouths
or in holes in deeper muds.
Characteristics
of Eggs: Eggs
are ca. 1.8 mm in diameter.
Size
of Babies at Hatching: It is not known at what
size they hatch at, but our 12-mm size babies do not
possess yolk, so they probably hatch at a length of
10 or 11 mm or less.
Early Movements of DWARF WRYMOUTH
Babies: Nothing
is known about the early movements of these babies. Small
numbers ( <5 per 10 min. tow) of baby Dwarf Wrymouth
were captured scattered throughout the Broken Island
Group of islands. (Ref. 18). |
