EARLY LIFE HISTORY of the CABEZON:
Spawning Season of Adult CABEZONS: Spawning occurs from January through May.
Where CABEZON Eggs are Found:
Cabezon eggs are found in rocky crevices, on rocks or on algal bunches. They are usually found in shallow intertidal areas but may be in deeper waters.
Characteristics of Eggs: Eggs are usually greenish in color with a diameter of 1.4 - 1.9 mm. They have one large oil globule (0.2 - 0.3 mm in diameter) with 1 - 4 smaller ones. They are adhesive, demersal and found in batches.
Size of Babies at Hatching: Baby Cabezon hatch at 3 - 6 mm in length.
Early Movements of CABEZON Babies:
Little is known about the early movements of these babies except that they are pelagic in small numbers. Baby Cabezon were captured singely scattered throughout the Broken Island Group of islands with 10 min. tows of a finemesh townet. (Ref. 18).
